Youth Justice: Help With Heating Bills (LIHEAP)

What is LIHEAP?

  • LIHEAP provides grants to help with a heating bill.
  • This includes bills for electricity, gas, water, oil, kerosene, or other fuel types.
  • LIHEAP is typically only available November through March.

What type of help can I get from LIHEAP?

  • Cash Grant - Pays at least $100 to help with a heating bill. 
  • Crisis grant – Pays up to $500 to prevent a utility shut off or to restore service.
  • Interface program - Repair or replacement of broken heaters.  

How do I apply for LIHEAP?

Visit your local County Assistance Office or apply online at: www.compass.state.pa.us.

Who can get LIHEAP?

Households must have income lower than either the monthly OR annual limits listed below and must be responsible for paying for heat.

What happens if I am denied?

You can appeal within 30 days.  An appeal form will be included with your denial notice.
