WHO WE ARE:

CASAC is an independent organization which operates in conjunction with the Family Law Unit at Philadelphia Legal Assistance.  CASACoffers in depth assistance to low income clients in the area of support and custody.  Prior to the creation of CASAC in 1992, 75% of the individuals seeking resolution of custody disputes had no legal representation, and few avenues to turn to for free legal advice in Philadelphia County.  CASAC was formed to expand the family law services of Community Legal Services to reach those individuals.

CASAC assists people where appropriate to prepare legal papers including initial petitions, petitions to modify, contempt petitions, emergency custody petitions, motions to request home or psychological evaluations, support exceptions, and other documents.  The advocates each carry their own caseload, under the supervision of the faculty consultant, and guide each client through the judicial process.  CASAC advocates also providecoordination of representation with available attorneys at PhiladelphiaLegal Assistance, and make referrals to area legal organizations.

CASAC volunteers are not attorneys and cannot represent clients in court.
